Waldmeer: Petals and Sweet Peas

Chapter 87: Enough

Amira and Ide were sitting at Ide’s kitchen table in her new house. “Sorry, it’s still such a mess,” said Ide.

“Not at all,” said Amira. “It’s coming along really well. I must tell you that you have inspired me with a big change. After you explained to me about your budget and how the new house came about, I started to think about my own situation. Continue reading “Waldmeer: Petals and Sweet Peas”

Waldmeer: Unfinished Business

Chapter 79: Captivated

Thomas was driving to the city for a meeting with fellow principals. However, he had another meeting which was of more importance to him. He had arranged to meet Kathleen at a riverside restaurant, near her home. It’s not that he wasn’t interested in Teresa anymore but, a few days ago, he had called into the bookshop with an unexpected request.

“Teresa, I know that I have arranged to go out with you next week,” said Thomas, “but I was wondering if you would mind postponing it for the time being? I have some unfinished business to attend to in the city.” Continue reading “Waldmeer: Unfinished Business”

Waldmeer: Beginnings and Endings

Chapter 74: Bookshop

Amira was a frequent visitor of the quaint Waldmeer bookshop. She would scan the shelves to see what people were writing and reading and then sit on the old, upholstered chair in the corner with anything that interested her. As she rarely bought any of the books, she tried to think of another way to repay the owner, Teresa, who had recently taken over the shop.

Teresa was originally a local of Waldmeer but she had been living in the city for many years. She left Waldmeer when she married a wealthy businessman. Amira thought that money and Teresa were not an obvious match. Although Teresa had a wardrobe full of what she called her rich-clothes, she preferred to wear the ones she got from the op-shop. And even though she was now forty, she wore her long, brown hair in two plaits tied with strips of leather. The vintage clothes and the long braids made her look like a bohemian which she probably was. Continue reading “Waldmeer: Beginnings and Endings”

Waldmeer: Reach For It

Chapter 65: Done or Different

Amira was carrying the last of the art supplies from Gabriel’s car down the winding track to the bungalow. Gabriel had been driving to Waldmeer for the previous few weekends as he was keen to fix up the bungalow as a country studio.

“Thanks a lot, Maria,” said Gabriel. “Anywhere on the floor is fine.”

“Okay,” said Amira. “I’ll leave you to it. I’m sure you have lots to do.” She turned for the door which was only two steps away. The entire length of the bungalow was no more than ten steps, probably, eight of Gabriel’s. It was just enough room for a bed and a small kitchen table. One single cupboard and sink made up the kitchen. Next door was a tiny room with an old but adequate bathroom. Running along one entire wall was Gabriel’s art and sculpting equipment. As the floor was uneven, he had bits of wood underneath everything. It was a constant reshuffle of the wood to try and get the structures stable. Continue reading “Waldmeer: Reach For It”

Waldmeer: Bungalow Buddies

Chapter 61: Translucent Man

The past few weekends in Waldmeer, Amira had been seeing a man out of the corner of her eye. She could tell that the man was no longer an Earth resident because he was translucent. That made it easy! If she looked at him directly, he would disappear. He was about her age. Tall, blonde, broad shoulders like a footballer. Amira felt that it was not actually her that he wanted to speak to. She guessed that he wanted to speak to someone in Waldmeer who couldn’t see him. She had no idea who but life always has a way of telling us what we need to know. Continue reading “Waldmeer: Bungalow Buddies”

Waldmeer: Alamgir

Chapter 55: Conqueror of the World

Amira hadn’t had the nightmare since she was twenty. It hadn’t even crossed her mind in the two years she was living in the city. Now that she was travelling each weekend back to Waldmeer, the nightmare was occasionally returning. It was strange because nothing could be more charming than Waldmeer; going to sleep and hearing the distant sea, waking to the forest birds, walking to the rhythm of the breaking waves. Once, she had come face to face with the nightmare malevolence when she went to see her teacher, Erdo, in the forest. That occasion, also, marked the first time Amira spoke to Maria. It was the beginning of many years of instruction. These days, Maria was back in the Homeland and Amira had sole charge of the body they had cohabited. Some years were lost in the transition and Amira was now in her late thirties. Like all the secret ones who claim their inheritance, she seemed somewhat ageless. Continue reading “Waldmeer: Alamgir”

Waldmeer: Love and Sexuality

The overriding theme of Waldmeer is what is love? It is considered from both a spiritual and human perspective. Sex is rarely spoken of directly but it is an ongoing, underlying interest/tension for many of the characters as it is in real life. We will look at this topic via Maria’s relationships with the main characters. There are several different types of sexual orientations in Waldmeer: Farkas is a heterosexual man, Gabriel is a bisexual man, Charlie is a gay female, and Maria is a heterosexual female. However, her spirit counterpart, Amira, tends to see things in a different manner. Continue reading “Waldmeer: Love and Sexuality”
