Together: Couple

Chapter 29: Half-half

Ide had spent the last two days trying to make a workable budget. It still wasn’t working. Adding to the problem was her difficulty in getting full-time work at Waldmeer Hospital. She was an excellent nurse and the patients, often, specifically asked for her. She treated everyone with the same care that she would her own relatives. However, the Matron had been at the hospital almost as long as it had been there or so it seemed. She held onto the full-time positions for the locals. Ide wasn’t born in Waldmeer and so the Matron did not have her on the special list. Besides, the Matron was more than a little jealous of Ide. Not only did the patients love Ide but it did not go unnoticed that Ide’s patients seemed to heal faster and have fewer complications than most of the other patients. Ide was, after all, a descendant of the Clinkers and they have healing in them. Matron didn’t know about Ide’s connection with the Clinkers and Ide, certainly, wasn’t telling her. It would have given Matron more ammunition and she already had enough. Continue reading “Together: Couple”

Chapter 14: The Convent

Amira’s neighbour had recently let her know about the forthcoming church fete and festivities which were to commemorate the one-hundred-year anniversary of the Convent. It was a place Amira loved. Nevertheless, it was a sweet sentiment. Continue reading “Together: The Convent and the Clinkers”

CHANGE

Chapter 49: Loss

For the past week, Gortaithe had not been himself. He was restless and jumpy. He kept barking into the empty night even though Maria assured him that everything was fine and, when that didn’t work, commanded him to be quiet. When they walked in the laneways, he wouldn’t relax. He alternated between pulling on the lead and hiding behind Maria. Today was no different. A truck backfired and he pulled so hard that Maria had to let go of the lead or fall over. Worse, he then ran off. Continue reading “Waldmeer: Change / Happy Moments”

Waldmeer: Maria of Waldmeer

Chapter 5: A Gift from God

Lenny was a fisherman from Waldmeer. Several generations of his family had lived in the little coastal village. One of his past relatives was a logger in the forest like many men at that time. He had emigrated from Germany. The logging settlement was the spectacular meeting point of forest and stunning coastline. It was he who first referred to the early town as Waldmeer. It means forest-sea in German. The name stuck and the locals called it that ever since. Continue reading “Waldmeer: Maria of Waldmeer”

There is a Greatness in You – short story

“I don’t understand,” said Vincent. “I know that you love me. Even if you don’t want to marry me, can’t we just stay together?” It was true that Victoria loved him and she did not doubt his love for her. Not so long ago, Vincent had taken her hand and said, “I can’t wait to be married to you for a decade to be able to tell you how much I still love you.” Victoria believed him.
