Enanika: Visionary Fiction—Seed of Life

In Chapters 4 and 5 of Enanika, we learn of the ancient Seed of Life sculpture and the frequency technology that links worlds. Anu discovers that Earth carries a more intimate connection to Enanika than she realised.

Chapter 4: Seed of Life Sculpture

Closing the door of her cottage, with one last lingering look at her cosy, dear home, Anu greeted the callboy.

“Morning. You’re early.”

“Never early or late,” he replied with a wink. “Always right on time.”

She fell into step beside him as they walked towards the hilltop. The air was still and honey-scented. The moss beneath them was soft, absorbing the sound of their footsteps.

“I see you’re travelling via the Seed of Life sculpture,” said the callboy. “Not a ship?”

“I prefer the subtle to the showy,” said Anu.

“Spaceships have more obvious technology than the sculpture,” said the callboy, “but the frequency engineering of the Seed of Life sculpture is just as sophisticated.”

As they reached the base of the hill, the sculpture came into view. It lay flat, embedded in the ground — a vast mosaic of glowing hexagonal tiles, each one carved from a different crystal and etched with a unique symbol.

“Nadhir made it when I was a boy,” said the callboy. “Well before your time.”

Nadhir, the Head Contact Caller, was over three hundred years old. He was deeply respected — not only by the contact callers but by all of Enanika. His other great love, besides contact calling, was sculpting, and it could be seen across the planet in the many crystalline energy structures he had created. The most significant was the one they now approached.

It was composed of hundreds of hexagons, each crystal representing a planet connected through the contact callers. No two were the same. Their colours ranged from deep sapphire to rose gold, burnt orange to translucent pearl. Each bore a glyph — some angular, some fluid, some resembling ancient runes, others more like star charts or mathematical spirals. It was a living archive of resonance. As more worlds were reached, the structure expanded.

At its centre lay a green crystal engraved with a six-petaled Seed of Life — a pattern of overlapping circles symbolising the harmony and connection shared between all worlds. It was the symbol of Enanika. Enanika’s hexagon was formed from Verdanite, a rare mineral found only on that planet, known for its ability to carry and stabilise frequency signatures across vast distances.

Anu paused at the edge of the sculpture. The tiles shimmered, their crystalline faces alive with expectant energy. Without looking at the callboy, she said softly,

“There’s something I’ve never understood about this sculpture. Every planet has its own colour and symbol, but Earth’s hexagon… it’s almost the same as Enanika’s. The same green, almost the same glyph. Why would that be? Earth is so different — so troubled. It still has wars. They kill animals for food. They hurt each other. They have such low self-esteem, and they’re so afraid. So why would Earth share our symbol?”

She turned to face him, but the callboy was already walking away, his coat flaps bouncing in the breeze.

He glanced back over his shoulder and said, “Don’t you already know?”

Anu shook her head. “Some things, we’re meant to find out for ourselves.”

“We are Earth.”

Anu laughed in disbelief. “We’re not Earth. We’re Enanika.”

The callboy met her eyes and said, “Enanika is Earth’s future.”

Chapter 5: The Fifth Visit

The Seed of Life sculpture cast its multicoloured crystal light across the surrounding hills. Anu waited for her teacher, who had accompanied her to Earth several times, guiding her through the process of adjusting to Earth’s slower vibration. Each visit had been a lesson in adaptation.

The first time, they stayed only a few hours, just long enough to feel Earth’s energy. The second visit lasted a day, spent entirely indoors, breathing and adjusting to the air. Earth’s thinner atmosphere left her somewhat light-headed, needing deeper breaths to stay steady. A human on Enanika would feel the opposite; over-energised by the higher oxygen level, probably dizzy, until they adjusted.

On her third visit, Anu stayed for two days and ventured briefly into the town, though she avoided people, focusing instead on finding ways to adapt to Earth’s food. By the fourth trip, which lasted four days, she was able to move comfortably among the townsfolk, practise speaking, and observe their customs and niceties.

The green crystal Earth tile began to hum and glow. That was her signal. In the past, her teacher had always stepped onto the Earth hexagon first, disappearing into its shimmering light before Anu followed. There was only space for one person at a time. Today, with no teacher present, she stepped onto the crystal alone. A moment later, her teacher appeared on the central Enanika tile — a calm, wise presence.

“You know from your preparation,” said the teacher, “that you will remain on Earth for an extended period this time. The exact duration is undefined. If you need to reach us, you can do so telepathically, and by other means that you will discover when appropriate.”

Anu felt nervous excitement rising. She nodded, focusing on the teacher’s words.

“As the Earth crystal begins to vibrate at the appropriate frequency,” continued the teacher, “you will match it, as you have done before. Once it reaches the right pitch, the light will brighten and flash. Your own frequency will align with Earth, and you will be transported.”

The Earth hexagon intensified in colour and sound. To one side of the Seed of Life sculpture, Anu noticed movement. It was Nadhir, the Head Contact Caller. This was the first time he had been present for her departure — at least, the first time she had seen him there.

Behind him stood a quasi-visible assembly of Nanik contact callers from many generations. They were silent, steady, and radiant — their presence a wordless reminder that she was never alone in this work.

Nadhir smiled and inclined his head. Remember, his voice sounded in her mind, we are always with you. The challenges you meet on Earth will shape not only your growth but theirs. You have all the help you need, and if you ever feel helpless, know that it is not that we are absent, but that you have disconnected. We will not leave you, Anu of Enanika.

Anu thought of the callboy’s revelation that Enanika was Earth’s future, and wanted to ask Nadhir about it. It seemed vital, and she wasn’t sure why she didn’t already know about it.

“If we are Earth’s future, and Earth is our past, why… ” she began.

Nadhir lifted his hand, signalling that it was time, and so it was.
